Hastings & Proud business launch considered a great success

A campaign to encourage businesses in Hastings to proclaim that they’re proud to be here has been hailed a great success by organisers and members alike.

Local firm, Chris Knott Insurance, launched ‘Hastings & Proud’ at this year’s Let’s Do Business Hastings exhibition last month and claims the response has been astounding.

Nick Day, Head of Marketing at Chris Knott, said “Everyone I’ve spoken to has been so positive about the initiative and genuinely enthusiastic about operating in the town. The Hastings & Proud Facebook page has around 400 ‘likes’, we’ve got over 100 followers on Twitter and more than 30 businesses have already signed up officially via the website for banners and window stickers so they can tell their potential customers they’re proud to serve our community”.

One such business is family-run The Soup Dragon. Jim Smith, co-director, commented “We love Hastings – the place and its people. It’s a fantastic place to bring up children and to build a business. We wholeheartedly support ‘Hastings & Proud’. Anything positive that helps promote our wonderful town, wonderful people and wonderful businesses is worthwhile and a good thing”.

Another business owner, Tony Woodward, of Soak in George Street added “We’ve joined ‘Hastings & Proud’ to help promote the great locally-owned enterprises. We have some brilliant businesses here but we need to let people know we’re here. Of course, money spent in local businesses stays in the area as they in turn use other local services and suppliers. Use a local business and you support more than just that one business".

Soon offices and shops across the town will be displaying the Hastings & Proud logo to help customers identify them when making their purchasing decisions.

Nick concluded “We still want business owners to sign up, to see who else has joined the campaign and maybe start using each other’s services. Some members are already offering each other discounts and we’ll keep building up recognition with Hastings residents so that individuals can benefit too”.
