In late 2023, we were delighted to welcome Harry Dickens to our Personal Lines team. This is Harry’s first step into a career in insurance, so we took some time out of his busy day to learn more about him and what he’s been up to since he became an Insurance Technician.
Tell us a little bit about your working background.
I’ve been doing all sorts! I worked in retail while I was at Sixth Form and then had a phone line job for a little while. After that, I worked at an outdoor activity centre for a few years. However, the seasonal contracts weren’t ideal, so I found out about the position in Personal Lines at Chris Knott Insurance and decided to go for it. It was great to get accepted into the team.
What have you been doing since you joined Chris Knott Insurance?
I’ve been really busy learning everything about insurance. I’ve mainly been focusing on new business, especially for Car Insurance policies, but I’m now starting to take a look at Home Insurance too. I’ve therefore been doing lots of training and shadowing to get to grips with everything.
On an average day I’ll be busy answering the phone to new customers and getting their contact, driver and car details. I’ll then set about finding them the right price for their insurance.
What have you enjoyed about the role so far?
It’s been fantastic to join such a strong team. They really help each other out, so it was nice not to be dropped in the deep end. It was a bit daunting at first!
What are you most looking forward to once you’re fully settled in?
I’m looking forward to getting more familiar with Personal Lines and gaining experience. I prefer Motor Insurance at the moment, but it will be good to learn about other areas.
Do you have a particular interest in cars?
I’ve always liked cars and watching motor racing. I’m particularly interested in muscle cars and supercars, such as Mustangs, Camaros and Ferraris, although I appreciate classic cars too. The Fast & Furious franchise also got me interested in Japanese imports.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like going to the gym and keeping active. I also like gaming, with my favourites being Marvel and Star Wars. I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to video games!
